FAQ

  • What is an Honorance?

An honorance is a beautiful, heartfelt way to honor someone in your life. It is a paper lantern with personalizable vellum paper “windows”.
Upload images and sentiments to display on each of the four windows. These images are printed in black and white to create a stunning sepia tone effect when the yellow flickering light is on.
We create each lantern to order.

  • What are they for?

The possibilities seem endless, we’d love to hear your ideas!

Just some of the uses people have ordered them for:

To display at an occasion/event:
  • to honor the veterans returning to Hawaii during the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack
  • at memorial and funeral services
  • at a retirement dinner
  • as center pieces at a 50th birthday party

  • How do I order one?

From our website, honorance.com, click on the customize button.
You can upload photos/files from whatever device you are currently working from, download images from your Facebook/Instagram page and add messages using the text editor.
There are four sides to the lantern. You can create four unique designs or repeat a design on multiple sides so that it can be viewed the same from front and back.
*Quick tip: remember to click 'save design' as they are currently not editable once you exit from the customization app. Our third party provider of this service is working on this addition.

  • What are some ideas of what to put on the Honorance?

Just a few possibilities are:

    • Photos
    • sentiments
    • sayings, poems, memes
    • religious symbols
    • clip art

  • Where can I get photos to create my Honorance?

Photos you may already have on your phone or other device
Download photos from Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Take a digital picture of a physical picture
Tip: to avoid glare, remove photos from behind glass (as in picture frame) if possible and/or use an app such as ‘Photoscan by Google Photos’ that creates a glare-less photo by merging multiple shots taken at different angles.

  • How does this come delivered?

The lantern is delivered flat in a large envelope. Once removed from the envelope, the recipient simply pushes on the sides to pop the lantern into a box shape, closes the top lid, and flips the switch on the bottom to turn on the light.

  • Can I send this to someone directly?

Absolutely, just enter the address you’d like it delivered to.
If you would like a small note card attached to the lantern, let us know and include a short message for the note in the ‘order comments’ (at checkout).

  • Do I need a candle?
The lantern is installed with a battery operated led light (batteries already installed). The switch to turn the light on is on the bottom of the lantern.
Do not replace with a real candle/flame since this lantern is made from paper.

  • Does it come with batteries?

Yes. It already has batteries installed. Simply flip the switch on the bottom of the lantern to light it up. Replace batteries with two CR2032 batteries. Or  a battery operated flameless candle (as most people usually already have on hand).
Do not use a real candle since this lantern is made with paper.

  • Why do you use black and white images on the lanterns?

We use black and white images for two reasons, to create a beautiful sepia-toned effect and to allow lower resolution images to be used.
The sepia-toned affect creates a nostalgic feel and ambiance to the lantern.
Many images that people want to use have been downloaded from social media and other sites that have reduced the image size for faster browsing speeds. But, if you’ve ever tried to print one of these photos you quickly realized that they are very fuzzy and pixellated. Changing the images to black and white allows these images to display better and less pixelated on the lantern.
